Home Grown Math Success: Parent Engagement in Numeracy

Just twenty minutes of parental math support four times a week can produce big results in a child’s math achievement.

To help parents in providing that critical math support, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is once again offering free licences for SuccessMaker, an adaptive online math program for Grades 1 to 6.

Interested parents are invited to attend a Parent Information Session on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nicholas Mancini Centre, located at 44 Hunt Street (behind the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton).

“The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board recognizes that parents need assistance in supporting their children when it comes to mathematics,” says Equal Opportunities Consultant John Madalena.

He adds that this unique opportunity comes at no cost to families, and allows parents to access math support right in their own home.

At the end of 8 weeks, parents will receive a summary of their child’s progress as well as the choice to continue or discontinue the program. SuccessMaker requires a minimum of 20 minutes per day, 4 times a week, for a total of 8 weeks and will be supported by a program coach which will be available to parents for the duration of the program.

Parents must pre-register for the Parent Information Meeting. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP to no later than Monday, January 15, 2018.
